song of the day (right click title to download):
semisonic - closing time
so gather up your jackets - move it to the exits,
i hope you have found a friend,
closing time -
every new beginning comes from some other beginning's end. . .
- everyone remember this song? came out back in '98, and was pretty popular for a while. i remember the video for this song too, based in a restaurant and rather meaningless. . .
- it's saturday morning!!! quite easily my favorite time of the week. of course, this also means that spring break is officially over, and that school starts again on monday, but i'm hoping i won't realize that until tomorrow nite. ah well. seeing as most of my afternoon's gonna be spent at ARML (math team) practice at long beach, i decided i'd get as much homework and schoolwork done today, leaving today to do whatever i wanted to do. if i can stave off the procrastination bug, it might just happen. . .

- more fun pics of the day. the guy on the left is supposed to be the iraqi finance minister, but sure enough that's the eight of diamonds in the lower right corner. if you haven't heard, the u.s. military created a deck of playing cards with the 52 most wanted members of the iraqi government. =.= hmm, i wonder which one saddam is. . .i was hoping the joker, but then the deck would have to be 53. =P meanwhile, SARS is getting worse in china, and now the government is being accused of hiding patients from the world health organization. geez. over in hong kong, 81 people have now died of SARS, and it's already spread to canada and even here (35 possible cases). . .someone find a cure!
- once again, i found myself at basketball in the night, perhaps out of boredom, and perhaps because i felt like doing something else after doing math all afternoon (actually, it was pretty fun - everything was team round, and i found out where some of the other seniors are going to college). anyways, tonight i played 2-on-2 with ani, si hyun, and si hyun's cousin chad. chad and i won the first two games, and then si hyun and i won the last one - which left me in a pretty good mood. =D actually, chad was an awesome teammate, and in the last game si hyun actually decided to play and ended up scoring a few baskets. . .
- a word on ani tho - i realized today, rather randomly, how much i've come to respect him in the last few years. a lot of times he'll go to play basketball by himself (or to join whoever's playing there), and he just works really hard at getting better. his outside shot is insanely better than mine, and whenever he plays on a team he's always unselfish and never gets really pissed off if the other players aren't doing as well. and his work ethic's just as good at school. . .i'm sure he'll be really successful at MIT, and i think he deserved to get in as much as anyone else. in the meantime, joy and i are just about ready to embrace the *super weather* of northwestern!!!
final notes: nowitzki trashes the blazers with 46 (O_o), but marbury takes the cake with an insane 3-pointer to crush the spurs!! crajie.

linkin park - faint
i say what you never wanna say
but i've never had a doubt -
it's like no matter what i do,
i can't convince you for once just to hear me out. . .
- and the meteora party continues. i actually didn't like this song at first (was a tad too loud for me), but the chorus is just too cool. besides, it reminds you that you can't always run away from your problems. . .or run away from people.
- ugh. today was dedicated to physics, but i ended up just getting a huge headache trying to understand some of the calc-based stuff. just goes way over my head. so frustrating that i usually ended up taking a break by revisiting the past and pulling out mega man x (anyone remember that game???). so yeah. . .i beat the game. . .twice. . .i have way too much free time:

- now these are two of the wackiest dudes in the world. on the left is eric dybas, the retard that attacked an umpire during a baseball game tuesday night. to reward his efforts, he was promptly beaten down both by the umpire (who happened to be a former marine) AND the entire kansas city royals team. what a moron. if you feel bad for him, feel free to pay the $250,000 bond to free him from incarceration. . .then watches as he gets convicted for aggravated battery and criminal trespass. then there's mohammed saeed al-sahaf, who's the iraqi information minister. now THIS guy is off the wall. throughout the war, he's been issuing hilarious reports of events and made a plethora of quips that just make this whole thing seem like a fifth-grade diss war:
there are NO american infidels in baghdad. NEVER!!!! god will roast their STOMACHS in hell at the hands of iraqis!!!
- and so on. man, he's better than bush at this thing. why couldn't saddam be more like him? oh well. . .went to lunch at asia noodle cafe with parsa, and then for only the second time today, i left in the night to play some basketball. eventually, it was me, si hyun, jack, ani, and one of ani's friends. we had a pretty good time, especially mocking the indian people before us who were trying to play a 5-on-5 game but struggled to finish (they were just terrible). . .nothing doing in the night, except for this essay edit i did for henry. here's an excerpt (his essay in white, my comments in yellow):
I was summoned into the Hippocratic brotherhood in a way similar to how priests are called into the clergy;
WTH???? Hippocratic brotherhood??? What is that, some kind of fraternity? If you want to mention the Oath of Hippocrates, go ahead, but the way you make it sound, you’re either a prophet or a drunkard of some sort.

song of the day (right click title to download):
staind - price to play
the more you take - the more you blame,
but everything still feels the same,
the more you hurt - the more you scream,
the price you pay to play the game. . .
- new stuff from staind; the chorus is really well-done, although near the end it kinda degenerates into a bit of loud sound. ah well, that's alternative for you. =D woke up at 8 this morning to try to fix a problem at my mom's office (called her secretary), but realized my dad had already taken care of stuff, so i ended up just recollapsing on the bed and getting up at 9. this morning's been a bit sluggish, considering i've been trying to cram neurobiology into my head. . .
ok now, brain, i'm going to teach you about yourself.
- if only brains could talk. . .mine would tell me it was too full and was going to vomit on me. the quizzes continue (ignore the thing on the right):

- yeah. . .that's what linkin park song i am. don't even ASK me where the inspiration for that quiz came from, but propz to connie for digging that up somehow. my favorite song from the album, anyways, so somehow i rub off as a cold, bitter, apathetic jerk. oh, and according to cecilia, i rub off as a rabid macaque monkey. heartwarming. let's see what adventures i can dig up today. . .probably nothing as exciting as yesterday's safety dance, tho, altho here's an example of my unabashed male chauvinism:
neilymon: or you could get a job at a daycare center
waterlili24: nah, i'd be overqualified ;-)
neilymon: nope, the only qualification you need for that job is to be female
neilymon: babysitting's in your genes
- i'm really not that sexist. really!!! another standard day, except for the part where i spent SIX hours at my professor's lab, then headed off to ycy board meeting afterwards. . .didn't do much else, tho. most likely, my evening's gonna consist of ap english flash cards and more physics c prep, which has nerd nerd nerd written all over it. oh well, better to be a nerd than to be ceci's monkey up there. . .

men without hats - safety dance
we can act if want to,
if we don't - nobody will,
and you can act real rude and totally removed,
and i can act like an imbecile. . .
- LOL. some '80s lovin' for you all. you have to hear this song at least once - it's just hilarious. i give credit to steve, who showed it to me while i was in av. in particular, the video for this song (yes, there is one) is fruity beyond comparison. the characters are all like medieval paupers or something, doing this "safety" dance that consists of holding their palms out around their heads. yeah. . .don't ask. =P

- just in case you thought i was hallucinating, i got your proof RIGHT THERE. *take that* actually, i did think i was hallucinating because when i woke up this morning, there was STILL NO WATER. man, you have no idea how much it SUCKS to have no water. i couldn't take a shower, i couldn't brush my teeth, i couldn't even eat breakfast (cuz i wouldn't have had any water to wash up afterwards). eventually, i went out and fetched a pail of water and did the most painful thing ever:
i dry shaved. no shaving cream, not even WATER on my face. just a razor.
- oh the PAAAIIIINN. oh the AAAAGGOOONNNYYY. (in the process of writing about this, i realize i have lost half my audience, i.e. the females) oh, and guess what happened right afterwards. yup! the water came on. *@#$%(@*#%$ ah well, i was happy enough to actually be able to take a FREAKING SHOWER. *hashish* let's see now: my face burns, my hip still hurts, and my forehead is still smarting from that cross-chop i got last night. . .
Neilymon: you've never SEEN it snow?
Neilymon: or you've never seen snow?
hamsterkillerBUI: the former
hamsterkillerBUI: duh - i go snowing every skier
hamsterkillerBUI: wait a minute
hamsterkillerBUI: every winter, i go snowing
hamsterkillerBUI: FUDGE
hamsterkillerBUI: i snow
hamsterkillerBUI: alrite whatever
Neilymon: LOL - you snow
Neilymon: thanks man
- in a world that often makes too much sense, there's always bui. a pretty normal day allaround, at least until the evening. when i DID get home at 5, i was *rudely* interrupted by rui, who insisted on our going to the ARC (where he owned me at badminton =.=) afterwards, we played a little basketball, albeit on a four foot hoop (look mommy, i can DUNK!) and just when i felt pretty damn pooped, rui decided enough WASN'T enough and that we'd head to his house to study physics. oh great. after fussing with that for way too long (and finding out physics c ownz us), we dabbled a bit with english before i realized it was 10:30 and finally decided to go home again. X_x;;;
the ducks SWEPT the red wings!!!
- quite an amazing story, considering it was the EXACT vice versa last year. maybe the (anaheim) mighty ducks will turn out to be last year's (anaheim) angels. . .? =D we shall see. . .and the good news continues!!! lakers got #5 seed, so they play the loser timberwolves instead of the mavericks - hehe. (in the process of writing about this, i realize i have lost half my audience, i.e. the females) ok, ok, just kidding about that, there are female sports fans (marci, for one =P). ah well, a nice day overall - except for the night, when i got flamed by ceci. . .and leslie. . .and jackson. . .

brian mcknight - shoulda, woulda, coulda
shoulda been a better man -
the kind of man that you needed,
woulda been better off
if i done right by you. . .
- granted, the title's slightly cheesy; in fact, the lyrics are a tad simplistic. =.= but it's a really soulful piece of r&b music, and it has a smooth background. besides - i haven't heard from him in quite a while ("anytime" was like 6 years ago). . .

- those would be the results of a rather pointless morning. woke up late (by my standards), around 9, and just proceeded to waste a whole lot of time doing pretty much nothing constructive. actually, the color thing is an insanely long quiz by jean, but apparently incredibly accurate (neil means blue in bengali), and the quiz on the right is just cool. =P oh yeah, and if you didn't notice, i expanded this main frame, so the blog entries actually *seem* a tad shorter (unfortunately for you, they're not).
- hit the gym after going to the lab today, and proceeded to pull off 15 pullups in a row. =P incidentally, i couldn't even open the door out of the gym afterwards, but hey, that's justifiable. . .right?? anyways, at night i went to play basketball with jay, ani, rui, and a few other ppl:
and i got BATTERED. like, ASSAULTED.
- oh man. you have NO idea what happened to me. first andy lee "accidentally" (jpa =D) smacked me across the forehead, driving my glasses into my nose and opening a cut. bloody stuff. later, jay managed to REOPEN it, and then proceeded to land on me when he was trying to block a shot (which i made, thank you very much, at the expense of my poor hip). he landed right on my coccyx (lowest bone of pelvis), which STILL hurts now. and, finally, greg huang planted a nice little elbow into my face (which was mostly my fault), finishing off a dreadfully painful night. =.= ugh. to make things EVEN WORSE: there's NO water running in my apartment right now. NONE. damnz. i'll leave you with this (think sexy. . .then think lexicon. xP)

song of the day (right click title to download):
stacie orrico - stuck
now love's a broken record that's
been skipping in my head,
i keep singing yesterday -
why we've got to play these games we play?
- i feel like the last person in the world to hear this song. =.= after ceci told me who sang it, i managed to hear it four times in the last twenty-four hours (including once on mtv - dude, the girl's like 16). anyways, it's got a pretty good beat, altho i WILL say that her voice is a tad annoying. T_T
- got up at 6 this morning cuz i couldn't sleep, and for a while just looked out at the rain and pondered for a bit. rain always seems to make me reminisce. actually, it rained a ton today, which made driving *not* so fun. i spent most of my afternoon at dr. zeng's lab, then went to neurobio discussion - where the quiz was surprisingly easy. from there, it was off to neurobio lecture, and afterwards i couldn't stop myself from swinging by carl's jr and picking up some. . .dinner?! i guess most american families eat around 5:30, but for me it was more of a really late lunch. well, i shouldn't say that - i made lunch today: hot and sour soup, with one little problem:
i put an ENTIRE block of tofu in the soup.
- i have NO clue what i was thinking when i did that. . .the broth itself turned out really well, actually; not too spicy, not too much tart. now if i'd only put in a little less tofu (hehehe: littletofu), i think i might have been able to pass myself off as an asian cook. *bwahahaha* as an ending note, check this out:
did you know that prozac works just the same as. . .LSD?!
- you learn something every day. =P actually, i'm stretching it a bit - prozac stops your brain from receiving the neurotransmitter seratonin, while LSD mimics it and makes you feel like you have more of it. either way tho, you do away with depression. . .hee hee hee. . .

dana glover - thinking over
and i can't really tell you what i'm gonna do,
there are so many thoughts in my head,
there are two roads to walk down
and one road to choose. . .
- sweeet!! how's this for a useful trip to apple valley - got up a tagboard, and redesigned the right column a bit. . .tell me if you like it! anyways, regarding the sotd, i think i first heard it on jenny wan's website, and then i heard it again at my professor's lab (one of the grad students had it on her playlist). i guess i thought it was pretty good, and the lyrics are really. . .relate-able (wow, my vocabulary is going DOWN the drain - i should have said something like 'easy to relate to'). besides, it's new - at least i think it is - and that's always a good thing.
- anyways! rather stupid day. last night, after going to a wedding reception, my parents were too tired to go straight to av, so we delayed that till this morning - after getting there, i went to steve's house to watch the lakers lose to the blazers (stupid wallace!! >=O) before getting insanely bored and working on this blog for a bit (hehe). only interesting quote of the day came from my dad:
your wife should make AT LEAST 100K.
- great. . .something tells me i'm gonna stay a bachelor. . .
