song of the day (right click title to download):
sean paul - get busy
get crunked up,
percolate - anything you want to call it,
oscillate your hip
and don't take pity. . .

- what meaningful lyrics. i swear i've heard this song at least fifty times and i still can't figure out what the heck he's saying. i actually end up liking this song more than "gimme the light", if only because of the addictive "shake that thing" refrain. xD LOL.

- okay then, so a very quick synopsis of the day: studied physics c in the morning, then segued (confused? lexy word =D) into physics b at school of all places; i was meeting leslie and julia for a review. we ended up taking our act to del taco, where i got to meet james shih (although i think i scared the poor guy with how much i knew OF him). afterwards, i met ceci at 2 at the uci science library to help her a little with sat ii math stuff (unfortunately for her, i don't remember ANYTHING), and after she left i made very good friends with my neurobio book in an attempt to cram for wednesday's midterm.

overall - today was a VERY good day. =D

lexy word:
segue (french, "seg-way")
proceed to what follows without pause (often used as a direction in music)

1000 words:
what could be possibly be cooler than ian mckellan as MAGNETO?

btw. . .if you're wondering about why it was a good day. . .it's OBVIOUS. lol.

song of the day (right click title to download):
jennifer lopez - i'm glad
the day that we first met,
wasn't lookin for what i found -
but i found you,
and i'm bound to find happiness in being around you. . .

- new j-lo stuff, although i really only like the background and the instrumental break - the lyrics could use a lot of work. (the video, too, if you've seen it) updated playlist on right!!

lexy word:
phraseology (greek, "fray-zee-all-uh-gee")
a manner of organization of words and prhases into longer elements; diction (stick it in your english essays)

song of the day (right click title to download):
jennifer love hewitt - can i go now
what's the point of trying to reach compromise,
when you're the only judge and jury?
what's the story?
i can't make you see that i'm not always wrong. . .

- another bitter breakup song - i actually don't think jlh has THAT bad of a voice, and i like the song's chorus. . .i doubt her career as a musician is really going to take off, but she's had a few okay singles (like barenaked). . .

- oh boy - maybe that all-nighter from last night wasn't such a hot idea. i sure didn't feel the effects in the morning, though: in english, we did some creative writing, including a description of "the person that walked through the door":

A small girl, perhaps of Spanish or Italian descent, but more resembling a gypsy, the kind you read about in folklore. Her dress extended to her bare, bruised feet but lay mostly in tatters, worn away by age, fatigue, or perhaps simply by the tragedy of her life; the latter was evident in her stoic, almost lifeless countenance. Her hair, frazzled and discolored with the wear of a thousand journeys, nevertheless had an underlying golden hue, a hint that she at one time had been very beautiful indeed. Hanging from her petite neck was a rusted metallic heart, perhaps a token of some sort, or maybe a locket containing the secret of her past, the soul of her wretched being.

- not bad for a quick five-minute write-up, methinks. . .in econ, we had the BIZZOTCHIEST sub in the world who kept shouting at her class to have quiet study hall, even when we were talking about art history. gah i hate stubborn teachers who always seem to have something up their butts - or at least deserve to. (excuse the imagery, but she was just THAT anal - rofl, nice pun, eh?) spanish was a lot better, especially because i actually HAD my outline and calendar to present to calkins; afterwards, i scared the wits out of brian and dahlia, who were rather incredulous at the fact that i was up all night. . .

- stats was part 2 of lean on me, where the highlight happened to be this one high school kid who got pretty incensed at this mother who was trying to get the principal kicked out - provoking me to dish out a most artful stream of profanity. =P physics was mostly fission and fusion reactions (pretty easy, actually), which led to lunch and the announcement of the new MUN board:

congratulations to sarah (prez), puja (vp), justin (del. leader), parsa (treas), kaidi (sec), porter (pub), and jean (web)!!!

- rather unfortunately, though, that same thing would end up being the cause of a lot of ANGST later on in the night. . .in the meantime, i heard some pretty positive things from kaidi, ceci, parsa, and the other sophomore who took ap us history, so i was happy for them. after going home for lunch, i went to neurobio at 4 and realized i have a midterm on wednesday - dear god.

- after heading home, i tried to cram some physics and econ, but ended up getting caught in a discussion about mun board, and why people got certain positions. . .and yeah. ugh - not pretty. i definitely preferred the multitude of comments about my aim icon, which happens to be that macaque monkey from the 04/17 entry (courtesy of the most immature sophomore ever, miss cecilia ong). . .

lakers stomped ALL OVER spurs!

- oh man, what a blowout. the coolest part was that devean george, who severely sprained his ankle only four days ago, recovered in time to start the game - and played awesome (awesome. . .ly?). and then jack nicholson, who got frustrated at the referees, STEPPED ON THE COURT and shouted at them!! bwahahaha. . .and top it all off, kobe scored 10 points in 96 seconds at the beginning of the fourth quarter. is that even LEGAL??? anyways, my point being: laker haters got slapped upside the head, along with fluky bruce bowen and the rest of the spurs.

lexy word:
pharisaical (greek, "far-uh-say-uh-kuhl")
marked by hypocritical, censorious sefl-righteousness

1000 words:
devean steps up and buries the spurs!!

closing note: i officially HATE dahlia for exposing me to ragnarok (online community rpg), which i ended up playing until three in the morning. . .

song of the day (right click title to download):
nas - i can
it was empires in africa called kush -
timbuktu, where every race came to get books,
to learn from black teachers who taught greeks and romans. . .

- this history lesson brought to you by. . .nas?? the only thing funnier than this part in the song where he talks about the proud african traditions (and how they aren't doomed to a ghetto life) is the fact that the background is fur elise. that's just TOO funny. at least the song is a refreshing break from the traditional nas songs about gangster life and murder and. . .an inspirational rap song - go figure.

- well, needless to say, today was FAR more relaxing than yesterday's ap massacre. almost ALL of our english class was gone because of the ap calc test, so we watched othello for the period. . .that reminds me:

happy birthday, henry!!

- hehe. in fact, while i'm at it, happy belated birthday to KUNAL, whose birthday was on sunday - but i was too freaked out about english to notice!! =.= we now return to the regularly scheduled program, already in progress.. ok, so econ and spanish were equally empty due to calc as well, and then in stats (which WASN'T empty because only jenga and connie were taking calc and stats - crazy!!) we watched this movie called lean on me, which was about this black teacher named joe clark, who became principal of a new york high school and raised it from the slums. . .

new acronym for you all: HNIC. head n---- in charge.

- hey hey: don't blame ME - i didn't come up with it. the movie was actually pretty good. . .physics was basically just a cramming of modern physics and the photoelectric effect, which went way over my head. i am going to be DEAD come monday. after school, i headed to dr. zeng's lab, where i stayed for 3 hours testing subjects. funny story, btw: this vietnamese girl came in, and she wrote that she had lived in california for 17 of the 22 years of her life. . .but she couldn't even pass the practice test. basically, the test involves hearing sentences and typing out what you hear (the actual experiment is a tad more complicated) - but TWICE in a row, she didn't get a passing score on the practice test (which essentially means you aren't at a sixth-grade level of hearing and writing english), so i couldn't use her data for the experiment. T_T

how does THAT work???

- ah, whatever. since i was deprived of my daily dose of basketball yesterday, i went to the tundra around 6:30 with the original intention of only playing for an hour - but then ani showed up, and we started a 2-on-2 with this 6' 4" guy and his friend. we got absolutely TRASHED. simply put, the tall guy was way too good, and he kept catching lobs over my head - to make matters worse, i kept missing easy finishes from nice passes by ani, and i relied WAY too much on his outside shooting. afterwards, ani and i just shot around until 9 (in almost complete silence, eerily enough). . .

- which was a terrible idea, considering i hadn't even STARTED on my spanish calendar and outline for the final project. but i found quite the convenient remedy:

i pulled an all-nighter!!! wheee!!!

lexy word:
patois (french, "pa-twah")
a dialect other than the standard or literary dialect; also, illiterate speech (from ceci's blog! =D)

song of the day (right click title to download):
r. kelly - ignition (remix)
girl, i'm feelin what you're feelin' -
no more hopin' and wishin',
i'm about to take my key and
stick it in the ignition. . .

- i had to be pretty selective in which quote i used from this song, considering the entire song is a metaphor for. . .you know. . .yeah. anyways, i'm approximately two months late in listing this song, but that's mostly because i refused to accept a song about. . .it by a CHILD PORNOGRAPHER as even remotely good. ah, whatever tho.

- now that we're past the pg-13 point of this entry, it's time for the rated r portion - i spent my WHOLE day doing ap tests. gaaahh!!! i actually showed up somewhat early for once to the ap spanish test, which started for my period in calkins' room. basically, we did the listening portion first, followed by all the multiple choice. and dear god. they were HARD. the first fill-in passage was called "la familia crece" and seemed to be about a family changing rooms in a house - believe me when i say i had no idea what it was about. oi.

but the carnage doesn't even stop there!

- oh no, no, that's not nearly enough punishment for me. one of the reading comprehension passages was about a native mexican who surprised all his friends with his knowledge of the united states - but the passage was so incredibly dense. the narrator describes HOW he knows so much about america, and i couldn't even discern whether it was a book or a movie. =.= after the break, we moved to the lab, where we started with the essay - thank god. the topic was on whether college education or social experiences were more important in life, and i dished out a five-page response. sweeeeeet. ah, but the pain returned soon after anyways - during the speaking portion, i only got through FIVE of the six pictures (you're supposed to tell a story in spanish based on the pictures) when i got cut off by the 80 second time limit. bleah. . .

and that was only the FIRST ap exam!!

- ok, admittedly, i'm exaggerating my suffering - ap statistics was a joke. and not even to brag: almost the ENTIRE room was fidgeting around for the last half hour of the multiple choice section. i finished the 40 questions in about half an hour, and after checking my answers i sat around and did random stuff - my ennui (ooh, word of the day) got so bad that at one point i set about finding the integral of log x. which, by the way, is (x ln x - x) / ln 10. just in case you care.

- free response wasn't much more exciting, although the six questions actually did take up a majority of the 90 minute period. still, i finished fast enough to fulfill my goal for the test: i drew trogdor in my free response booklet. i better not get docked for that, btw. i drew him on a page with only questions, but i added a nice note to the ap grader attempting to justify the extent of my insanity. . .i think i'll stop now.

i didn't get out of school until 4:30. WTH.

- somehow, though, i managed to find enough time (and ENERGY) when i got home to drop by alton and play basketball with jenga and some other people - until it started raining. ugh. i ended up coming home in a wet, exhausted, flustered state and promptly went to sleep. woke up to find that the lakers got crushed by the spurs. . .i'm starting to think they really DO need devean george.

lexy word:
ennui (old french, "ahn-wee")
a feeling of weariness and dissatisfaction (or more commonly, BOREDOM)

song of the day (right click title to download):
jewel - intuition

you got something that you want me to sell,
sell your sin - just cash in,
you got something that you want me to tell,
you'll love me - wait and see. . .

- the beginning of this song kinda reminds me of "objection", the tango-ish song by shakira. . .in fact, the chorus really doesn't sound like jewel at all - anyone agree with me?

- super long day. . .school itself wasn't too bad tho. in english, we saw othello, which included a little umm. . .frontal nudity. gah, i hate that - it's totally unnecessary and doesn't contribute whatsoever to the film. on a positive note, lawrence fishburne was othello. . .or is he merely morpheus in disguise? econ was a lecture on growth, although for me it was more a crash course in electricity and magnetism (my head was stuck in my physics c review book). spanish, stats, and physics all proceeded without consequence for the most part too, and after school i went to my professor's lab and just watched my day ebb away. *snooze* tomorrow will be death ap day.

gave my mom an amethyst ring!! wheeee. . .

- *that* would be my mother's day gift to her - i won it in an essay contest!! ooh, and the coolest dictionary ever, brought to you by everyone's favorite hong kong import =D: go jackson!!

lexy word:
askance (unknown, "uh-skants")
with a side glance; also, with distrust (from. . .my ap spanish book??)

song of the day (right click title to download):
jay-z feat. pharrell - excuse me miss
either she's the one or i'm caught in the matrix,
but (screw) it, let the "fishburne" -
red or green pill,
you live and you learn. ..c'mon!

- man i feel stupid. . .this song's been out for a pretty long time, but for whatever unspeakable reason i never figured out the title (or shook off my indolence to try to FIND the title) until today when i saw it on the billboard charts. T_T

ap english exam today!!! eep.

- i actually got in trouble even before the exam even started, cuz mrs. dyer had to hunt me down (apparently, i forgot to sign in. . .how did i manage that??). anyways, the multiple choice portion wasn't too bad; the worst part for me was the first passage, which concerned a particular "mr. vholes". . .and made absolutely no sense. ugh. we also had a passage out of much ado about nothing (score!) and some thing about a random neighborhood, which was actually written in NORMAL english.

- the essay portion was a tad more distressing, mostly because of the time limit. the open response, which asked about tragic heroes causing others to suffer, led me to write about crime and punishment, while the poetry prompt was a comparison of two poems about eros, the greek god of love (an omen, perhaps? =D), and the prose passage was about this couple that got engaged not because they loved each other - rather, just for the sake of getting married (definitely an omen.). . .

- and that was it! overall, although i rushed a little bit at the end, i think i did pretty okay. the sucky part was that i missed the chips and salsa party because our room was late getting dismissed!! BLEAH. i think i took my frustration out on michelle and ceci, both of whom i managed to call fat. *hangs head in shame* after school, i played a few quick games of basketball with a bunch of ppl before spending the rest of my day doing neurobiology and MORE ap cramming. . .

noooo!! lakers lost to spurs. . .refereeing was a little dubious, though. GRRR. =.=

lexy phrase:
quid pro quo (latin, "kwid-pro-kwo")
